This is the one whom my heart loves. Jim is my husband of 15 years, and the one I fell in love with at the age of 16. He is the only man I have ever loved, and the only one that I would follow to the ends of the earth. He loves Jesus. He leads well. He fathers our children in a way that makes me proud. He fights for justice and loves mercy. His heart is kind and tender toward things that really matter. We are a good team, and we always have been. We are one of those couples who love to be together, and our life is a reflection of this. Our opposites complement each other in exactly the right ways. He is my steady, my safety, and my silly. Our life is carved out together. We founded a non-profit (Mercy Branch Inc.) and just moved back to the states after living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for two years. We established an NGO to rehabilitate and reunify forgotten street children with families. This is our passion. We bridge the gap between continents, ensuring the work is happening on one continent while trying to raise awareness and funds on another, and we continue to travel to Addis several times a year, in order to invest in the Ethiopian Mercy Branch staff. At the end of the day, I lay my head on my pillow next to him, and for a moment all is right with the world.
These are my babies. Cadi is the one who birthed me into motherhood. She burst into our world in a frightening way, but she prevailed, and every single day I am thankful for that. I cannot imagine our home without our tenderhearted sunshine girl. She is our song. Scotty came to us early – in his own time, and nothing has changed about that. He is the epitome of sweetness and is our calm. And just when we were settling into parenting we encountered a plot twist and added a little boy from Ethiopia with some big diagnoses. He is our laughter and overcomer. In the midst we met a little boy who called the streets of Ethiopia ‘home’, and he is our oldest. Habi is our proof that nothing is impossible with God. He is our brave, athletic, charismatic, joy.
My heart beats for these.
